Synopsis

Just in Time is an exciting new Broadway musical about the extraordinary life of Bobby Darin, the adored Grammy Award-winning singer and actor. The musical follows Bobby’s rise from a struggling songwriter in East Harlem to a global superstar. The play follows Bobby’s life, from his childhood illness to his inspiring rise to fame. Just In Time highlights Bobby’s short but remarkable life, and his determination to make every moment count. Set in an intimate nightclub with a live band, the musical features Bobby’s iconic hits.

In his short life before passing away at just 37 years old, Bobby skyrocketed to fame from the fifties to seventies with covers of “Mack the Knife” and “Beyond the Sea,” as well as original songs like “Splish Splash” and “Dream Lover.” The star also had Broadway ties, including Just in Time’s title track. Bobby covered the song which was originally written by Jule Styne, Adolph Green, and Betty Comden for the musical hit, Bells are Ringing.

Over the years, Bobby’s discography spans pop, rock and roll, jazz, folk, swing, and country. But his talent didn’t stop at music and Broadway, he even made it onto the screen. Bobby became a TV star with his own variety show and he won a Golden Globe Award for starring in the movie Come September.

Creative Team

The cast and creative team for the Broadway musical Just in Time at Circle in the Square Theatre includes the 2024 Tony Award winner for Merrily We Roll Along and past star of Hamilton and Spring Awakening, Jonathan Groff as the leading character, Bobby Darin. Other cast members include newly announced Erika Henningsen (Mean Girls), Tony Award winner Michele Pawk (Wicked), Joe Barbara (A Bronx Tale The Musical), Drama Desk Award nominee Emily Bergl (Good Night, Oscar), Gracie Lawrence (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Lance Roberts (The Music Man), Caesar Samayoa (Come From Away), Christine Cornish (Kiss Me, Kate), Julia Grondin (Funny Girl), Valeria Yamin (Moulin Rouge!), John Treacy Egan (My Fair Lady), Tari Kelly (Mr. Saturday Night), Matt Magnusson (A Wonderful World), Khori Michelle Petinaud (Lempicka), and Larkin Reilly (Bad Cinderella).

Just in Time is developed and directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge! The Musical). The play has a book by Tony Award winner Warren Leight (Side Man) and Isaac Oliver (Intimacy Idiot, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), music supervision and arrangements by Andrew Resnick (Parade), choreography by Shannon Lewis (Saturday Night Live, Fosse), and is based on an original concept by Ted Chapin. Other creative team members include: Derek McLane (Scenic design), Catherine Zuber (Costume design), Justin Townsend (Lighting design), and Peter Hylenski (Sound design).

“Just In Time” will open on Broadway on 23 April 2025, with previews beginning on 28 March. While Just In Time hasn’t hit Broadway yet, we expect the highly anticipated jukebox musical to sweep the Tony Awards. Boasting a world class cast, this creative team is no stranger to stealing the show. The lead actor, Jonathan Groff, took home a Tony Award for his performance in the 2023 revival, Merrily We Roll Along. He also originated the role of King George III in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, which clinched a whopping 11 Tony Awards in 2016.
