"My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite."
For only twenty weeks on Broadway, Shakespeare and theater fans alike will witness the epic love story of star-crossed lovers Romeo + Juliet at the new groundbreaking revival show by Tony Award-winning director Sam Gold. In the spotlight is Emmy Award winner Kit Connor of Heartstopper and Golden Globe Award winner Rachel Zegler of Spielberg's West Side Story to dazzle audiences at the Circle in the Square Theater this upcoming Saturday, 7th of December.
"Breathless, violent and sexy af." - The Hollywood Reporter
Behold how New York's "theater-in-the-round" will be filled by two young lover’s love that will lead to loss, a moment of grace, then to an unfortunate resolution. It's a play that is taught in a whopping 93% of the ninth-grade curricula, and for those who slept through it in English class, it's a reference that's been adapted everywhere from films like West Side Story to Taylor Swift songs. This time around, you need to brace yourself for a Gen-Z coded Shakespeare tragedy, with high-energy opening trills and high-spirited humor while maintaining the antiquated phrases.
Leading the pack in the Romeo and Juliet - Theatrical Production will be American theater director, actor, and Tony Award winner Sam Gold, who have been directed other major Shakespearean tragedies such as Othello, Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth. Playing the female protagonist Juliet in the tragic love story is Spielberg's West Side Story's Rachel Zegler, who will lend her dynamic voice that established herself as a trailblazer of her generation. Meanwhile, Romeo will be played by Screen International Star of Tomorrow Kit Connor. He landed his first film role when he was eight and had recently stolen hearts in his role in Heartstopper.
Romeo + Juliet will also feature music by Grammy-winning artist and songwriter Jack Antonoff; and movement direction + choreography by New York City-based Tony Award-winning choreographer and director Sonya Tayeh.
